90,000 Fewer Indian Infants Died In 2016 Compared To 2015

There has been an 8% decline in infant mortality rate (IMR), infant deaths per 1,000 live births, from 2015 to 2016, according to the 2016 Sample Registration Survey bulletin released in September 2017.

As many as 840,000 infants died in 2016 compared to 930,000 last year, data show.

The gender disparity in infant deaths is also closing, and is less than 10% in 2016 compared to 2015, data show.
